School Choice?
In my personal life and as a leader, I believe wholeheartedly in allowing natural results to hold myself accountable and direct my future decisions. For example, I recently drove my camper (very slowly) under an area that I thought could possibly be too short…it was, and it damaged my camper (only very slightly). I will use these natural consequences to make a better decision in the future and won’t make the stupid mistake again! With this in mind, I have been giving “School Choice” a lot of thought lately as part of my Education Reform platform, and I really love the “built-in results/accountability” that come with it. If the funding follows a student, and a school does an amazing job educating their students (their primary purpose), then more students will want to go to said school…therefore increasing their funding. And the converse is also true. If a school does not effectively educate students as well as other schools around them, some of their students will leave that school, and their funding will go with them. This natural accountability should motivate the schools focus on the end results and what matters.
